Although many companies add their salaries to employees each year, there are many companies that do not do so, so you have to make an effort to get a salary increase.  But, the conversation between you and your boss about salary increases may be a threat. This, along with fear of rejection, makes many workers not try to do so.

But, remember, if you do not defend yourself you will remain with the same wage when you are nominated or moved to another company.  So the ability to talk to your boss with confidence about the increase in salary is the key knowledge that will help you in the labor market.

 What should you do exactly?

Know your value in the labor market

Although you may think you deserve more money than you are currently receiving, the increase in the salary you need must have a reason.  For example, if most people in your profession who have the same experience receive TZS 2,000,000 a month, then you want TZS 4,000,000 per month, your request will seem useless (except where your work is unique).  In short, the first step towards the addition of salary is to know your value in the labor market.

Unfortunately, when we come to the issue of salaries, there is not enough transparency in Tanzania, so you'll have to look carefully.  Start by talking to people you know in your field, they may not tell you how much they get, but they will give you an average rate.  Another person to talk to is your Human Resources Officer, he may not tell you how much your colleagues are getting, but tells you the average level.

Although this is a great job, it will help you know your value to know how much you ask.  You may be surprised to find that you are paid more than your colleagues, or as much as most are paid under the standard.

With the salary, you should look at the number of skilled people in your area.  Are most of your skilled people like you?  Is it easy to find someone who has knowledge like yours?  Or is your job unique, and is it hard to find someone who has your knowledge like yours?  This will let you know if you are in a good position to ask for a big increase, or be kind to ask for a small amount.

 Is the right time?

Although it is common to ask for an annual salary increase (employers know this) it should also be careful to plan how much time you should ask for such increase.

The first thing you need to look at is the economic situation of the company.  For example, if the company has had a difficult period to reach the staff, then this is not the best time to apply for additional salary.  But if the company does well, then it's a good time.

Further, you should know if it's a good time to talk to your boss.  Has a lot of tasks to finish quickly?  Or is he in good condition, and can he talk to you?

In short, waiting for a good time is important.

Show your knowledge
Even if you are a census worker, you must still show why you deserve additional salary.  To show this, go through all the work you did for the year ended and check:
Completely completed tasks and how they have contributed to business goals. The new roles you have now, which last year grows with the KPIs you have reached, and the review
Generally, you have to show your importance to the company, show that you will continue to do a good job and that you deserve additional salary.

Practice your request
Once you’ve got your key accomplishment written, you will be able to help your builder.  Inform your friend of your bosses (they are friendly, serious, matter-of-fact etc.?), So that they can show them the best of their abilities.

 Create Plan B
Often, people don't think what they will do if they don't get salary increases.  Will you stop working?  Will you continue to work in the same company?  You need to know your next step.  If you decide that you cannot progress with the same salary, then start looking for another job, if you do not get the results you trust.

 Talk to your employer
If you have worked on a company for more than a year, then you will know what is the best way to find your employer to arrange time to talk about increased salary.  Some employers respond to email more quickly, others have to talk to them face-to-face.  Also others want to briefly tell you, while others like to greet you first and talk a little.  The yummy here is that, it will help you talk to your employer in a way that he likes to use.

 Request a comment

If you are not added salary, ask your employer what you can do to improve your performance so that you can get the salary you want.  This will show your boss that you are ready to make improvements to your performance. But, if your boss is unable to tell you exactly what you need to do, this is a sign that you deserve to be paid but your boss is not a good leader.  If this is true then it is better to start looking for another job.
