Dodoma City is located in the centre of the country (6°10’23’’S; 35°44’31’’E), 455 km west of the former capital, Dar es Salaam; and 441 km south of Arusha City, the cradle of the East African Community. It is also 259 km north of Iringa Municipality through Mtera. The City covers an area of 2,669 km2 of which 625 km2 is urbanised.

Dodoma features a semi-arid climate with relatively warm temperatures throughout the year. Although average maximums are consistent throughout the year, average minimums drop to 13°C in July. The average annual precipitation is 570 mm, most of which occurs during the wet season between November and April, with the remainder of the year comprising dry season.

The recently refurbished Dodoma Airport and the Central Railway Line connecting it over a distance of 465 km with Dar es Salaam serve the city. There are also major highways connecting Dodoma with Dar es Salaam (via Morogoro Region) to the east, Mwanza City (via Singida) to the west, and Arusha (via Kondoa) to the north.

The University is located about 8 km east of the city centre, and is accessible by public transport, which is easily available from the city centre. The Organization was established in January 2005 and registered under the NGO Act of 2002, issued with a registration number No.00NGO/00006336 to operate in Tanzania Mainland.

Rafiki-SDO in partnership with WEI/Bantwana in Tanzania with funding from USAID in collaboration with PO-RALG, MOEST, and local government authorities (LGA) is implementing Waache Wasome project a five year project. The goal of Waache Wasome project is to improve the retention of adolescent girls in secondary school and influence negative perceptions about the value of educating girls. The project will be implemented in Mara region in Musoma Municipal Council.

The project targets girls aged 13-19 in secondary school and girls who have dropped out of secondary school.

Waache Wasome’s four objectives are as follows:
1. Build the agency, knowledge, and self-esteem of girls in secondary school
2. Increase family commitment and ability to invest in girls’ education
3. Foster a girl-friendly and supportive school environment
4. Provide alternative education pathways for girls who have dropped out of secondary school
due to pregnancy and/or marriage.

POSITION OBJECTIVES, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

Position Objectives

The Managing Director shall be the Chief Executive Officer, responsible for the day-to-day management of the bank, for provision of a dynamic and strategic leadership, vision and direction of the bank, ensuring appropriate outreach, growth and profitability while providing high-quality and transformational services. He or She shall be appointed by the Board of Directors.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • A successful applicant will be responsible for, but not limited to the following duties:
  • Provide leadership in the provision of effective and efficient operations across the banks network;
  • Formulating and implementing the bank’s vision, mission and strategic direction in consultation with the board of directors;
  • Leading in the development, implementation and evaluation of the Bank’s strategic plans in line with stakeholders expectations;
  • Building relevant organizational capacity to deliver on strategy by leading, guiding, directing and evaluating the work of Senior Management staff;
  • Optimizing returns to shareholders through operational growth and effective capital management;
  • Achieving operational results for all key metrics in line with the annual business budget and plans;
  • Coordinate, propose and implement the delivery of technology based solutions which enable and support all aspects of the bank’s business plan in a timely and cost effective manner;
  • Establish, implement and enforce a robust bank-wide risk management framework and systems (policies, processes and tools) covering operational risk, market risk, credit risk and other risks;
  • Building internal and external strategic partnerships while liaising with relevant stakeholders to ensure that the Bank operates in a conducive environment;
  • Formulating and implementing best-practice management principles while fostering a corporate culture that promotes ethics and sound corporate governance.
  • Maintaining a conducive work environment, suitable for attracting, developing and retaining a dynamic and competent workforce;
  • Ensuring effective public relations and enhancing the company’s corporate image with all stakeholders and partners; and
  • Carry out other related duties as may be assigned by the Board from time to time. 

Key Qualifications, Experience and Competencies

  • A Master’s degree in a Business-related field, especially Banking and Financial Institutions/Serves, or Corporate Finance and Investment, or Strategic Management, or Business Economics, or Business Management/Administration, or Accounting, or Business/lnvestment Law or other related disciplines from recognized university or institution; a PhD will be an added advantage.
  • Being a member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers (CIB), or Certified Professional Banker (CPB), or National Board of Accountants and Auditors (NBAA) or Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) or other professional Business related international/national membership is an added advantageAt least 10 years’ experience at executive management level within a growing banking and/or financial institution organization; with demonstrable positive experience in leadership and strategic management.
  • Demonstrated record of growth and new business development experience;
  • Excellent understanding of the commercial and financial services business; and good financial management and reporting experience;
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, risk and conflict management skills; Excellent people leadership and management skills;
  • Willingness to live and practice the core values of the bank including the bank’s;
  • Self-driven and results-oriented, ability to work conscientiously independently, efficiently and effectively; High level of integrity and honesty;
  • Proven record of creating and maintaining lucrative external relations

  • The Managing Director shall be reporting to the Board of Directors, and will also be expected to report to the Permanent Council of Tanzania Episcopal Conference (TEC).

OVERVIEW: The Project Manager will oversee the implementation of the project activities. In the implementation of Waache Wasome project Manager will provide oversight to all project intervention including livelihood, improvement for mothers caregivers of Adolescents ( LIMCA) ,parenting and POY (Protect our youth ) activities, and School Related Gender Based Violence (Lunch & Learn).

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Project Implementation

  • Work in close collaboration with Local Government Authorities (LGAs), Lower Level Government (LLG) and Community Volunteers (EEVs, Patrons/Matrons) to support adolescent
  • girls, Young Women’s and their families.
  • Work with communities, WEO’s, CDO’s and village level leaders to mobilize Village Savings and Lending Associations (VSLAs).
  • Work with communities and district council to identify adolescent girls and young mothers who have dropped out of secondary school for various reasons and provide them alternative
  • education pathways.
  • Work with public secondary school administration to establish and support Protect our Youth (POY) clubs to build the knowledge, agency and protective assets of adolescent girls.
  • Work with public secondary school administration to strengthen Subject Clubs placing emphasis on Science and Mathematics to improve academic performance
  • Work in close collaboration with LGAs staff and school administration to orient secondary school teachers in School-Related Gender-Based Violence (SRGBV) to be able to prevent and
  • respond to SRGBV.
  • Work in close collaboration with LGAs, Institute of Adult Education at district level and approved district/ward level vocational training centers (VTC) to provide alternative education
  • pathways to adolescent girls and young women who have dropped out of secondary school for various reasons.
  • Leverage and mobilize community resources to complement resources from Waache Wasome.
  • Meet rigorous monitoring and evaluation requirements that support national data management systems.

Project and Financial Management

  • Work closely with the Executive Director to lead and direct technical and administrative project team.
  • Allocate appropriate resources to ensure projects are completed within given time and budget
  • Execute and monitor project activities.
  • Manage changes to scope, cost and schedule of project work.
  • Coordinate priorities and resources of the projects activities
  • Prepare and update project plans and status reports.
  • Coordinate cross-functional meetings of personnel related to project.
  • Facilitate sessions to effectively resolve issues if any

Monitoring and Evaluation

  • Liase with M&E officer to ensure data quality assurance
  • Report status, develop project-related documentation and implement lessons learned.
  • Participate in project performance review meetings and discussions.
  • Review compiled monthly and quarterly report from project staff and submit to Executive
  • Performance other duties as assigned by supervisor
  • Work with the M&E officer to review the progress of indicators and make appropriate decisions

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The Project Manager should be at least a bachelor degree holder. She/he should hold a bachelor degree in Education, social sciences, community development, development studies or other related fields from reputable institutions.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience and sound knowledge of working with Adolescent girls and young women and project management.
  • Experience of working with adolescents in primary and or secondary schools and out of school adolescent girls
  • Experience in Gender-Based Violence (GBV) or school-related gender-based violence (SRGBV);
  • Good team player with a capability to work with people in such a manner as to build high morale and group commitment to objectives.
  • Ability to travel and work under pressure
  • Excellent communication skills including ability to clearly document and present information through oral and written means.
  • Experience in working with communities to mobilize Livelihood Improvement for Mothers Caregivers of Adolescents (LIMCA); and
  • A good reputation with LGAs.
  • High degree of flexibility and adaptability
Language Skills: Strong language capability in both Kiswahili and English.

YOUR POSITION WITH TNC

The Finance Manager will provide specialized finance/accounting-related services to the Tuungane Program. The position is based in Kigoma, Tanzania

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for supporting all areas of finance for the Tuungane Program in Western Tanzania, a joint project between two organizations: The Nature Conservancy and Pathfinder International. Perform financial analysis, compare estimates to actual results, and recommend corrective action as appropriate for the joint program. Generate periodic internal and external reports for the Tuungane program management team, leadership and partner organization as well as assist in developing and implementing appropriate systems such as efficient mobile payment system, policies and procedures related to financial reporting and analysis. Serve as resource to staff on financial matters, policies, procedures, guidelines, and educate staff as required. Maintain and oversee a cost sharing system between TNC and Partner organizations, support project in developing solution-oriented implementation plans.

Responsibilities And Scope

  • Works toward meeting the strategic priorities of the program by developing and coordinating tactics for approved plans and completing day-to-day tasks.
  • Ensures programmatic commitments, TNC policies and procedures, financial standards and legal requirements are met and managed for compliance.
  • Reinforces consistency in the organization's policies and procedures and provides support related to relevant field.
  • Design, implement, and direct multiple projects, setting deadlines and ensuring program accountability.
  • Resolves complex issues independently within program area. Cultivates the creative ideas of others, projecting potential outcomes. Experiments to find creative solutions.
  • Acts as a resource to others to solve problems and member of the Tuungane program’s senior management team.
  • Financial responsibility may include working within a budget to complete projects, contracts, assisting with budget development, and meeting fundraising targets.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Fluency in English and Kiswahili language(s).

Desired Qualifications

  • CPA or ACCA preferred.
  • At least 5 years related work experience or equivalent combination.
  • Excellent analytical and quantitative skills
  • Expert knowledge of GAAP and understanding of fund accounting principles, practices and regulations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Technical expert on complex accounting/financial issues.
  • Experience using and maintaining automated systems.
  • Strong organizational skills, accuracy, attention to detail and ability to multi-task.
